About the Program

The objective of the China-Australia Cataract Surgery Training Cooperation Program is to develop a sustainable model of high volume cataract surgery in Jiangxi Province, which is accessible to the
poor, and which can eventually be implemented in other provinces throughout China.

The program focuses on:

  • Issues of access, affordability and sustainability
  • Advocacy and public education, while continuing to provide effective delivery of blindness prevention and treatment services
  • Developing new initiatives which respond to current eye health needs and exert more in-depth and lasting impact

The program is now well established within 57 counties of Jiangxi Province, with an enhanced program focus on improving the capacity of the hospitals in Gaoan, Poyang and Xingguo.
