Achievements

While still in its early stages of development, the Eastern Africa Regional Program has had some major achievements:

• Renovations at the Eye Unit of the Rift Valley Regional Hospital have been completed
• Outreach surgical clinics have been held throughout Kenya and as a result thousands of cataract operations have been performed
• Support has been provided to the annual Kenya National Ophthalmic Workshop which is attended by eye health personnel from throughout Kenya
• Continuing support has been provided to the Ophthalmological Society of Eastern Africa's Journal and Annual Scientific Conference

As part of the Nakuru Eye Unit project the following achievements were made in 2006:

• Funds were secured to ensure all children who attended the Eye Unit received eye care services
• The surgery component of the trachoma elimination strategy in the Samburu district was funded
• Refurbishments to the Nakuru Eye Unit were completed
