Overview

Around 93,000 people are affected by blindness in Sri Lanka with cataracts accounting for 70% of cases. Relative to the population, there are a limited number of ophthalmologists and eye health personnel in the country.

The Fred Hollows Foundation will implement a two year pilot project in the northern region of Sri Lanka. Due to the current conflict in Sri Lanka, this project has been delayed. Implementation of the project will commence  once it is safe and sustainable to begin project work.

When implemented, the project will assist marginalized communities in the region to help them gain better access to high quality and sustainable eye care facilities.
