Current Activities

The Vietnam Blindness Prevention Program currently works in Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Quang Nam, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Vinh Long, Dak Lak, Quang Ngai, Thua Thien Hue and Da Nang City.

Partners include the Vietnam National Institute of Ophthalmology, Ministry of Health and the Provincial Departments of Health. The program works with partners at national and provincial level to deliver tertiary, secondary and primary eye care.

The current focus of the program includes:

  • Developing a strong and professional program team
  • The Foundation’s networks with other non-government organisations and in-country partners are being extended, particularly in collaborating and sharing experiences
  • Building the capacity of eye care services through training and equipping eye health personnel in the provinces
  • Establishing and maintaining eye care networks from the provincial to village level
  • Raising awareness of eye care amongst local people
  • Offering free cataract operations to patients who cannot afford to pay
  • Conducting school refractive error control programs
  • Advocating to local authorities on eye health
