The  Fred Hollows Foundation has been named as the sixth most reputable not-for-profit organisation on the 2013 AMR Charity Reputation Index.

The annual index measures the reputation of Australia's top 40 charities on a range of dimensions including Innovation, Workplace, Citizenship, Governance, Leadership and Cost Management.

Oliver Freedman, the managing director of AMR, the research agency that compiles the Index, said all charities in the top 10 had built a strong reputation.

At the top of the list is Australia’s Royal Flying Doctor Service. Second is the McGrath Foundation. In third place is St John Ambulance. Fourth is Guide Dogs, Fifth is National Breast Cancer Foundation. After The Fred Hollows Foundation comes Starlight Children’s Foundation, Beyond Blue, the RSPCA and then, at tenth, The Salvation Army.

Global charities had the lowest scores, such as CARE at 37, Oxfam at 34, World Vision at 29 and UNICEF at 25.

Said Freedman, “According to our measurement, the top 22 charities measured all score well above the highest Corporate Reputation rankings, which shows that Australians still view the not-for-profit sector as a trusted community voice.”
