On Thursday October 13, The Foundation was thrilled to be awarded the Ryman Healthcare Charity Partner for 2023.

Founded in New Zealand in 1984, Ryman Healthcare provides retirement living and aged-care options across New Zealand and Australia. Each year, Ryman selects a charity partner to support, with residents and employees at villages across Australia and New Zealand focusing their fundraising efforts towards the chosen charity. Every dollar raised is matched by Ryman at the end of the year, with last year’s partnership raising $33,835 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

The announcement was made by Ryman CEO, Cameron Holland, at an event hosted by Nellie Melba Village in Victoria. On accepting the honour, The Foundation’s CEO, Ian Wishart, spoke to the importance of the newly awarded partnership,

“The Fred Hollows Foundation is extremely grateful to be chosen as Ryman’s charity of the year. As an organisation that invests in community and values access to quality care, we are excited for what should be a rewarding partnership. The Foundation can only do its work restoring sight because of the support from people around the world and the generosity of organisations like Ryman.”

Asked about The Foundation’s key goals and what the relationship with Ryman will help to achieve, Mr. Wishart said,

“The Foundation’s vision is a world in which no person is needlessly blind or vision impaired. Our ultimate goal therefore is to ensure everyone has access to high quality eye health care no matter who they are or where they live. In Australia, that means closing the eye health gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australians by building an eye health workforce and infrastructure to enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations to design, lead and implement eye health and vision care services for their various communities. Our partnership will help close the gap in eye health between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australians, ensuring everyone has the right to sight.”

Having partnered with Ryman Healthcare since 2020, we are excited for this next stage in what has already been a successful partnership.
