30th Anniversary Event Volunteering

Come and volunteer with us to commemorate 30 years of restoring sight and ending avoidable blindness!

The Foundation is hosting a celebration on 30 August, from 6pm - 8pm at Town Hall in Sydney’s CBD to commemorate The Foundation’s 30th Anniversary.

We need passionate volunteers to help us ensure the event runs as smoothly as possible and remains a positive and inspiring event for all who attend.

Please see below for some of the volunteer roles and how you can get involved!

Ticket Registration Desk Volunteer

This event is free, but ticketed as per venue requirements; which means we’ll need four friendly volunteers to register incoming members of the public as they arrive to give them a ticket to enter, direct them to the door, and address any questions the guests may have about the event. The ticket registration desk volunteers may also be required to assist with other volunteer tasks where required by other volunteers in the event space or FHF staff.

This role would be perfect for someone who is friendly and loves interacting with people and is able to maintain an accurate record book and distribute tickets while interacting with others.

Ticket Scanning Volunteer

Our eight ticket scanners will scan guest tickets as they arrive at the gate using a hand-held scanner, address questions about the event and redirect anyone who does not have a ticket to the registration desk.

This role is perfect for volunteers who love interacting with and helping people and are able to multitask where needed.

Seating Assistants

Our 10 seating assistant volunteers will assist incoming guests with getting the closest available seats to the stage for the speaking events/presentations as they arrive. The seating assistants are also responsible for ensuring VIP seating is kept clear for VIPs and incoming general tickets are assigned to the general seating area.

They will also assist with distributing programs for the event onto the seats and assist with seat set-up prior to the event.

This volunteer role suits those who enjoy working with people, are physically capable of moving chairs/holding and distributing materials where required and have a good eye for detail (in terms of checking what kind of ticket the guest has and seating them in the right area).

Gallery Attendants

The gallery attendant volunteers will assist with directing guests around our display of 30 Iconic Photos of the Fred Hollows Foundation’s Journey. They will also assist with placing the easels around the gallery space and placing the photos onto easels, two hours before the start of the event.

This includes greeting guests and managing crowd flow in and out of the gallery space and reporting any obstacles or hazards to the event manager or venue staff.

Volunteers for this role will need to be able to lift easels and photo prints, and enjoy helping people.

Pedestrian Guide Volunteers

Our four pedestrian guide volunteers will help guide our guests safely from the Town Hall station, toward the Town Hall registration desk or their doors.

This role would suit those who have a passion for safety and prevention of accidents for the guests of various ages who will attend the celebration.

Backstage Support Volunteers

The four backstage support volunteers support the MC and production staff with any general ad hoc support they need, including helping speakers onto the stage, and responding to requests.

This would suit volunteers who are a little bit tech savvy and enjoy supporting with the efficient running of events and presentations.

Queue Management Volunteers

The six queue management volunteers will assist with moving our guests through to the gallery and theatre from each of the three entrances to prevent crowding and injuries.

This would suit volunteers with passion for safety and helping people find their way, who have big loud voices.
