The Fred Hollows Foundation China

There are many challenges to providing quality, affordable eye health care in China. Up to 80 per cent of blind people live in rural areas, and most are unable to afford a simple eye operation.

Restoring sight in China

Alongside its partners, The Fred Hollows Foundation is establishing sustainable eye care services to meet the needs of rural, poor and ethnic minority communities.
In conjunction with our cataract and trachoma treatment programs, we’re also addressing the emerging threat of diabetic retinopathy. In the past year, we’ve trained thousands of health workers, supplied almost half a million dollars’ worth of equipment, and performed over 165,000 sight-restoring operations.
