A global crisis we can solve. Together.

1.1 billion people are living with vision loss — and most don’t need to be.

At The Fred Hollows Foundation, we’re building scalable eye health systems, training local doctors, and delivering proven solutions that restore sight and transform lives. This is your opportunity to be part of a global movement driving lasting, systemic change.

Ending avoidable blindness is one of the smartest investments we can make

Blindness doesn’t just impact individuals — it affects entire economies and societies.

Every year, vision loss results in over $410 billion in lost productivity. Without action, the number of people living with avoidable blindness could increase by 55% by 2050.

But this is not a crisis without a solution.

  • 90% of vision loss is preventable or treatable
  • Just $25 can restore someone’s sight in some countries
  • Eye care unlocks education, independence, and opportunity

This is one of the highest-return investments in global health — and one of the most urgent.

We see a world in which no person is needlessly blind or vision impaired. With the support of our partners in 2023, our global impact was profound.

Solving blindness where it hits hardest

We operate in 25+ countries across Africa, Asia and the Pacific — where the need is greatest, and the opportunity for impact is massive.

From national health reform to remote outreach programs, our teams are embedded in local systems, working side by side with governments, hospitals, and communities.

Every eye is an eye. When you are doing the surgery there, that is just as important as if you were doing eye surgery on the prime minister or the king.
