The Fred Hollows Foundation is an international development organisation, established by renowned ophthalmologist Professor Fred Hollows in 1992, aiming to end avoidable blindness. Four out of five people who are blind don’t have to be. Restoring sight can change lives. The Foundation trains local doctors and health workers, builds and upgrades facilities, and provides equipment in order to achieve long-term sustainable eye health care.

Special talk: The undermined rights of women in eye care
Over 36 million people are blind worldwide. Women alone account for two-third of these and 90% of women who are blind live in poverty at the same time. Gender inequality, religious and cultural background are among some of the factors why women and girls are not getting the same right to eye care as men.
