The Fred Hollows Foundation is proud to announce that our world-renowned Nepalese partner Dr Sanduk Ruit has appeared on the ABC in the acclaimed documentary series Human Planet.

Filmed over two years by the BBC, Human Planet journeys through 40 countries and explores the complex relationship between humankind and nature.

It features the sight-restoring work of Dr Ruit, a longtime friend and colleague of Professor Fred Hollows, who has performed more than 100,000 sight-saving operations in his career. The eye doctor is founder and Medical Director of Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology, in Kathmandu.

Episode four in the series focuses on life in the world’s mountainous habitats. Human Planet reveals how the eye doctor and his team perform sight-restoring cataract surgery on people in some of the most difficult-to-reach corners of the country.
