On October 13, The Fred Hollows Foundation joined individuals and organisations around the globe to mark World Sight Day.

Fred Hollows dedicated his life to working to restore sight. In the last years of his life he set up The Fred Hollows Foundation to carry on his work.

When he passed away we lost a powerful voice, but we promised him we would continue to push for change.

Today we urge everyone to do your bit to help make Fred's dream of eliminating avoidable blindness a reality.

Please share the facts below with friends, family and workmates - overcoming avoidable blindness is up to us.

Avoidable blindness: Fast facts
  • 4 out of 5 people who are blind don't need to be
  • Ninety per cent of avoidable blindness occurs in the developing world
  • More than 50 per cent of all avoidable blindness is due to cataract, a condition which can be overcome with a simple operation costing as little as $25 in some developing countries.

Please make a donation today so we can continue Fred's sight-restoring work.
