On World Sight Day 2010, The Fred Hollows Foundation has planned special events in Rwanda and Burundi.

Rwanda

In Rwanda, two special training events are planned in conjunction with World Sight Day.

Working in partnership with the Rwandan Ministry of Health, The Fred Hollows Foundation is running a workshop for Ophthalmic Clinical Officers, addressing standards in the treatment of common eye diseases. They will also discuss how Rwanda can achieve the global goal of ending avoidable blindness by the year 2020. Participants will then visit a local school for the blind where they will conduct eye screenings and provide eye medicines and low vision services free of charge.

Burundi

The Foundation will hit the airwaves in Burundi with live radio and television discussing World Sight Day and how everyone should have the right to sight. The public information will inform people that many causes of blindness can be prevented or cured and that people should seek advice if they have an eye condition.
