Partnership brings renewed hope through sight restoring care

The Fred Hollows Foundation and Vision for Life Institute (VFLI) have announced an exciting new partnership aimed at restoring sight for people who would otherwise remain needlessly blind or vision impaired. Launched in January 2026, this collaboration will drive positive eye health care across more than 25 countries.
As part of the “Eye for an Eye” initiative, Vision for Life Institute will donate $100 AUD to The Foundation for every cataract surgery the Institute conducts over the next three years. This contribution will support sight saving programs across Africa, Asia, and the Pacific helping to deliver life-changing surgeries, treatments, and training that strengthens local health systems for the long term.
“The partnership between The Fred Hollows Foundation and Vision for Life Institute is grounded in a shared belief that everyone, no matter where they live, should have access to quality eye health care,” said Ross Piper, CEO of The Fred Hollows Foundation.
“This initiative reflects Professor Fred Hollows’ belief that everyone everywhere deserves the right to sight. Vision for Life’s generosity will help us restore sight, train more doctors, and strengthen health systems so that communities can care for their own eye health.”
Together, the organisations will work to create lasting change by expanding access to surgery and treatment, building the capacity of local health workers, and advocating for stronger, more equitable health systems.
Beyond the direct impact of each donated surgery, this partnership also represents a powerful model of how the private health sector can champion global equity in eye care. By linking every procedure at Vision for Life Institute to life‑changing support for people in low‑income communities, the collaboration demonstrates how compassionate, purpose‑driven businesses can help close the eye health gap and amplify the reach of organisations like The Fred Hollows Foundation.
“We both hope that this initiative will inspire other like-minded organisations to join the movement to end avoidable blindness worldwide. For every surgery performed at Vision for Life Institute, a brighter future becomes possible for someone in need,” Mr. Piper said.
