Disability data in eye health

cambodia-2024_ngin-surgery_1920x1080px.png

The collection and use of disability data is critical to making eye health services inclusive for all—especially people with disabilities. While many tools and approaches exist across the broader development and humanitarian sectors, the eye health sector has lacked specific, evidence-based guidance—until now.

In 2022, The Fred Hollows Foundation commissioned the Inclusion Advisory Group at CBM Global to undertake a first-of-its-kind evidence summary focused on disability data in eye health. Drawing on a literature review and interviews with key organisations working in eye health across low- and middle-income countries, this report brings together emerging evidence, current gaps, and opportunities for action.

The findings have informed our own internal guidance and training, and we hope they’ll be just as valuable for others in the sector. By engaging with this report, we invite eye health practitioners, program designers, researchers and advocates to build on this knowledge—developing stronger, more inclusive approaches to disability data and advancing sector-wide collaboration.
