全球沙眼里程碑:需要治療人數首次降至一億以下

全球沙眼防治工作迎來歷史性突破:現時需要接受沙眼干預的人數首次降至一億以下。沙眼是全球導致失明的主要傳染病,這項非凡成就反映了眼健康領域、各國政府、社區及國際合作夥伴多年來持續努力,推行世界衛生組織的 SAFE 策略——手術(Surgery)、抗生素(Antibiotics)、面部清潔(Facial cleanliness)及改善環境(Environmental improvements)。
護瞳行動在這項全球工作中扮演了重要角色。我們在各地項目中協助派發超過 2 億劑抗生素以對抗沙眼。在我們最大的項目所在地埃塞俄比亞,已分發超過 1.14 億劑抗生素,覆蓋奧羅米亞地區 95% 的人口。除了抗生素,護瞳行動亦培訓外科醫生及社區醫護人員,支持水源及衛生項目,並倡議系統性改革,確保消除沙眼的成果得以持續。
這項成就彰顯合作的力量。越南、巴基斯坦及斐濟等國已獲世界衛生組織確認,成功消除沙眼作為公共衛生問題,與其他 25 個國家一同達成這項里程碑。進展有賴各國政府、當地社區、非政府組織、捐助者,以及「全球沙眼地圖項目」(Global Trachoma Mapping Project)及 Tropical Data 等倡議,讓干預措施得以精準實施並嚴格監測。
雖然仍有近一億人面臨風險,但今日的里程碑證明,只要全球協調並持續努力,沙眼終有可能成為過去式——為數百萬人挽救視力,改變生命。
