The Fred Hollows Foundation is saddened to hear of the passing of great friend and partner, Effi Jono, who was a founder and director of A New Vision in Indonesia.

A New Vision was established in Singapore 2010 and aims to eliminate cataract blindness; with a primary focus on Indonesia. It has also supported the work of Foundation partner Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology in Nepal.

The Fred Hollows Foundation was proud to partner with A New Vision and Effi, who was a strong supporter of The Foundation’s programs in Indonesia.

Fellow Director and founder of A New Vision, Dr Sanduk Ruit said: “Effi was a great advocate of our work to provide high quality cataract surgery, especially to the marginalized community.

“We did some great work in and outside Indonesia many times with The Fred Hollows Foundation. She was a great champion of training and sustainability.”

Effi was a Certified Practising Accountant by trade and held Executive Director positions with multinationals in Australia, Indonesia and Singapore.

After 13 years of seeing thousands of cataract surgeries, Effi still had joy at seeing people’s lives transformed.

The Fred Hollows Foundation sends its sincere condolences to Effi’s family and her many friends in the eye health sector. Her overwhelming contribution to ending avoidable blindness will live on.
