Michael Johnson honoured with ACFID award

The Fred Hollows Foundation’s founding board member, Michael Johnson AM, has been posthumously awarded the Outstanding Contribution to the Sector Award by the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID).
Presented by Governor-General Sam Mostyn AC at the ACFID Conference reception, the award recognises Michael’s outstanding and sustained contribution to Australia’s aid and development sector.
For more than 35 years, Michael helped shape The Fred Hollows Foundation through his work in governance, financial stewardship and strategy, helping it grow from a small Australian charity into a global organisation restoring sight and transforming lives.
His contribution extended well beyond The Foundation. As an academic at the University of New South Wales, he helped establish development studies as a respected field and mentored generations of students and development professionals.
Michael’s legacy lives on through the organisations he helped build, the people he mentored and the lives improved through his work.
