LightnoteHK: Writing hope with light and shadow, restoring sight to lives
Founded by two passionate Hong Kong artists, Carol and Karen, Lightnotehk (IG:@lightnotehk) is a poetic dialogue between light, shadow, and words. Carol was in over 40 local and international exhibitions, guided by her philosophy of "play art, learn art, enjoy art." Karen is a floral designer and Western calligraphy enthusiast. Drawing inspiration from nature, together, they blend photographic art and elegant calligraphy into artworks that touch the soul.

Previously, Lightnotehk held an exhibition at Murray House in Stanley (July 21 to August 24), showcasing 52 original works that were highly praised by art lovers. After the exhibition, they donated 30 pieces to support The Fred Hollows Foundation’s festive charity fundraising campaign-extending the value of art to public welfare and bringing light to visually impaired people.
One Piece of notepaper, One Chance to Restore Sight
This collaboration features 30 "Light and Shadow" artworks, each depicting urban light and shadow with everyday elements, inscribed with thought-provoking phrases in Western calligraphy. This artistic interpretation of "light" perfectly aligns with The Fred Hollows Foundation’s mission to prevent blindness—artists use light and shadow to depict artistic conception, while we bring the hope of light to those living in darkness.

Seeing the Light Bulb Shine-Thanks to Your Support
Xiao Long, who lives in Yunnan, suffers from congenital cataracts, which caused blurred vision and nystagmus (involuntary eye movements). He was unable to accurately grasp objects and often stumbled when walking, leading him to quietly stare at light bulbs or press his face against paper to draw.

Xiao Long's parents work in Guangdong year-round and only return home once a year. His family is economically struggling and classified as a national-level extreme poverty household. He is looked after by his grandparents, especially his grandmother, whom he stays with constantly, whether she is working in the fields or sleeping. To take him to the market, his grandmother even had to carry him on her back for four hours along a mountain road. His family had previously taken him to see a doctor, but they were told his eye problem was congenital and untreatable.
The turning point came during a rural screening program conducted by a hospital in partnership with The Fred Hollows Foundation. After diagnosis, the doctor informed the family that his sight could be restored with early surgery. The operation was a great success. The day after the surgery, Xiao Long was able to reach out and grab a toy to play with on his own, no longer needing his grandmother's constant, close care.

Although he still needs to get close to things to see clearly, the doctor indicated that his chances of going to school in the future are very high. After returning home, Xiao Long was finally able to play with neighbors and his younger sister like a normal child, enjoying the simple happiness of childhood. This ordinary joy is priceless to him and his family.
