Three people at different stages of life each faced barriers caused by eye conditions. Through timely diagnosis, referral and eye care, they were able not only to regain their sight, but also to rediscover opportunities to learn, work and live independently.

One Moment Makes a Lifetime Difference
For families in Rwanda’s Western Province, reaching the Kabgayi Eye Unit means travelling around 300 kilometers and spending several days at the hospital. For those living on low incomes, the cost of transport, time away from work, and uncertainty about treatment can make seeking eye care an overwhelming challenge. Affordable basic eye care remains out of reach for many, even when the solution is simple and effective.

Just HKD150 can help restore sight to someone who is needlessly blind in some countries and transform their lives forever. Your donation will help cover the costs of the three key things needed to restore sight – the surgeon’s time, the consumable equipment and the intraocular lens (IOL), which replaces the cataract.
If we don’t act now, by 2050, it is estimated more than 61 million people will be blind because of the growing and ageing population. But we can change this. More than 90 per cent of vision loss is preventable or treatable, and your gift can help us reach more people.

Blindness and vision impairment are health issue closely related to a person's well-being, quality of life and development opportunities. The Fred Hollows Foundation believes that a fly-in-fly-out model is not the best way to develop a place’s eye health care. Our vision is to build sustainable, good quality, and affordable eye care in remote areas of the world.
