Trachoma is a disease that blinds one person every 15 minutes. It impacts 100 million people in 57 countries – including Kenya.

Trachoma occurs in hot dusty areas where people lack access to clean water and sanitation. It is a bacterial infection that causes inflammation of the eye and eyelid tissue. It is a painful condition - eventually the eyelid turns inwards and scratches against the cornea. Without treatment, trachoma eventually leads to blindness.

Fortunately, trachoma is preventable and treatable through a strategy called S.A.F.E which combines Surgery, with Antibiotics, Face cleaning and Environmental improvement.

Our CEO Brian Doolan recently visited Kenya to see the work that is underway to tackle trachoma. In this short video he shares what your support is achieving. Together we can eliminate trachoma.
