“Light of Tomorrow – Eye Explorers Club”

  – A Monthly Giving Adventure 2025 for Families to Learn Together, Restore Sight Together

kv-general.png

Since the pandemic, childhood myopia has surged in Hong Kong. A 2023 study 1 by the Faculty of Medicine at The Chinese University of Hong Kong found that the myopia rate among Hong Kong schoolchildren aged 6 to 8 skyrocketed from 13.9% to 25.2% –, nearly doubling in just a few years!

The Fred Hollows Foundation launches the "Light of Tomorrow - Eye Explorers Club", a limited-time* monthly giving program designed for families to learn together and support global eye health. By donating HKD 250 monthly**, you and your child will help restore sight and accomplish three powerful missions together:

  1. Unlock your child’s "Eye-Protection Superpowers": Each month, you’ll receive a 3-5 minute themed "Eye Explorers Pack", bilingual in English and Chinese. The pack will be full of fun facts and stories about eyes, including the 20-20-20 eye care rule and global sight-saving efforts. Discover the wonders of vision – together as a family.
  2. Shine a light across the world: Your monthly donations support sight-restoring surgeries for people with avoidable blindness around the world. Your support also helps train local doctors and build sustainable long-term eye care systems.
  3. Ask, learn, discover: Kids ask the best questions! Our dedicated “Ask Box” invites children to send in their eye health questions by email. We'll gather answers and post responses on The Foundation’s social media platforms. Every question brings us one step closer to better eye care!

“Light of Tomorrow – Eye Explorers Club” – A Monthly Giving Adventure 2025

The Eye Explorers Club welcomes everyone. For family learning, we recommend children aged 6 or above participate. All learning materials are bilingual (Chinese and English) and presented as story-driven activity packs. In some months we will include short videos to bring eye-care and sight-restoration knowledge to life.

Materials are emailed once a month based on the date of your first successful donation. For example, if you donate on June 15, you will receive each pack during the week of the 15th. Some months include a hands-on activity kit mailed to your home – please provide a valid postal address. If you need to update your address after donation, please email us at [email protected].

Note 1: Complete 12 months of giving to receive an Eye Explorers Club Graduation Certificate and one exclusive, personalised souvenir.

As an international eye-health development organisation, The Fred Hollows Foundation provides basic eye care services in some of the world’s most remote regions, restoring sight for millions and helping people live their normal lives. Since our founding, we have helped restore vision to more than 3 million people.

Delivering eye care in these hard-to-reach areas is no easy task. The Fred Hollows Foundation relies on your generous monthly support to expand our outreach screenings and sight-restoring surgeries in remote regions of low- and middle-income countries. Together, we can achieve our mission - ensuring that everyone, regardless of their finances, has access to high-quality and affordable eye care.

WHAT IMPACT CAN YOUR DONATION BRING?

Blindness and vision impairment is a health issue, and related to a person's well-being, quality of life and development opportunities. The Fred Hollows Foundation believes that a fly-in-fly-out model is not the best way to develop a place’s eye health care. Our vision is to build sustainable, good quality and affordable eye care in remote areas of the world.

Your donation will be used to:

  • Train surgeons or eye health workers
  • Provide medical equipment
  • Organise eye screening camps in remote areas
  • Raise awareness of eye health to the public
  • Invest in innovation and research
