Night's Story

kenya2019-tax20-pic51fb.jpg

NIGHT CAN’T WAIT ANY LONGER. HER TIME IS RUNNING OUT.

With every day that passes, Night is brought closer and closer to permanent blindness.

Her parents can’t bear it. They watch on, heartbroken, as their daughter pretends to read and write.

“Please God, take me to school,” she cries out.

But her parents know that it’s too dangerous for her to even leave the house on her own.

The worst part is knowing that there is nothing they could do to help - they simply cannot afford the surgery. And without surgery to remove her cataract, she will be permanently blind.

In Kenya, blind children from poor families face a lifetime of disadvantage. They grow up at risk of being socially isolated or even exploited. It is worse for girls like Night.

We’re living in unprecedented times right now and there are many things that are out of our control.

But we can still control what happens for children like Night. You can restore their sight, before it’s too late.

In times of crisis, the vulnerable become even more vulnerable. That’s why we need your help now, more than ever.

There are thousands of children like Night who are waiting for sight-saving surgery in Kenya and we only have a small window of opportunity to reach them.

Blindness does not wait. And neither can we.

Please donate today so we can reach children like Night before it is too late.

HER VISION IS LIMITED. HER DREAMS ARE NOT.

Night is five-years-old and dreams of becoming a teacher when she grows up.

In Kenya, becoming a teacher could give Night an income, independence and respect.

But the child who sits in the darkness and draws on the floor with a stick will not become a teacher. Not unless she has urgent surgery to remove the cataract both her eyes.

WE NEED YOU, NOW MORE THAN EVER.

In times of crisis, the vulnerable become even more vulnerable. For children like Night, days can mean the difference between sight and a lifetime of blindness. We simply cannot wait.

CHILDHOOD CATARACT MUST BE TREATED URGENTLY

If we don't reach children in time, their blindness becomes permanent. Your donation today will help provide 37,573 cataract operations in Kenya, and allow over 2 million people to get their eyes screened.

PEOPLE DON'T KNOW HELP IS AVAILABLE

In poor countries like Kenya, there is a critical shortage of eye health care professionals. For people living in remote areas, they have to travel hours to reach it. Your donation will help train 23 eye surgeons and 19,329 community health workers in Kenya this year.

CHILDHOOD BLINDNESS CAN BE A DEATH SENTENCE

"To be blind in a place like this really means death," says Dr Kibata from Kenya. This can be the harsh reality of a blind child’s life chances, growing up in a poor country where 45% of childhood blindness could be prevented.

YOU ARE THE DIFFERENCE FOR CHILDREN LIKE NIGHT.

Thanks to generous supporters, we were able to reach children like Night and restore their sight.

When she came home from hospital, Night was transformed. She ran around, playing with newfound freedom.

As her sight had been restored, so had something else – her dreams. Her father told us, “Night will be free now. And I believe she will be a teacher.”

FRED NEVER GAVE UP, EVEN WHEN THE GOING GOT TOUGH. AND NEITHER CAN WE.

“THE BASIC ATTRIBUTE OF MANKIND IS TO LOOK AFTER EACH OTHER.”

- FRED HOLLOWS

This is true now more than ever. We must look after one another, especially the most vulnerable amongst us - the blind, the sick, and the poor.

Even though we are living in uncertain times, Fred would not want us to forget children like Night.

You are the difference between a lifetime of blindness and hope for a better life.

WE’RE CONTINUING THAT FIGHT FOR ALL THE CHILDREN WHO ARE BLIND, BUT DON’T NEED TO BE.

PLEASE JOIN US TODAY.
