Become a volunteer at The Fred Hollows Foundation, Australian charity of the year, and make a difference to the lives of millions across the world.

Why join us?

We’re working towards a world where no person is unnecessarily blind.
A world where everyone, no matter whether they’re rich or poor, has the right to high quality and affordable eye care. Since The Foundation started, we’ve restored sight to over two million people. By volunteering with us, you’re a vital part of making this important, meaningful and impactful work happen.

Volunteer in our Sydney office

Most of our volunteers come into The Foundation’s offices in Sydney, to help keep our global sight-saving work going. Volunteers do a range of things like sorting through donor mail, helping with marketing materials, events and appeal campaigns. You can be any age to volunteer with us – which is a great way to meet new people and experience working for an NGO.

How much time you give to volunteer is up to you. Some of our volunteers come in once only, others each week, and some every month. We’re flexible and appreciate any time you can spare, especially during office hours.

The Foundation does not generally place volunteers in our international programs. This is because we aim to develop the skills and capacity of the local people in the communities where we work in. Australian Volunteers International may be worth a visit if you are interested in these kinds of opportunities.

If you are interested or have any questions about volunteering with us, please do send us an email outlining your skills and how you’d like to get involved by sending us an email
It’s a friendly environment to work in and I like that I’m 'doing my bit' for a very worthy cause.
- Joyce Caesar, volunteer

Be a part of Coastrek

If you’re not able to come into our office, you can volunteer at our biggest annual fundraiser - Coastrek. We need help in a huge variety of roles, as our 7,000 trekkers walk the beautiful coastlines of Sydney and Melbourne, to help make the event run smoothly and raise vital funds to end avoidable blindness.

There are so many varied ways you can get involved with Coastrek. From being a team leader, leaflet dropper, route marshal, medal presenter or social media officer – whatever your skillset, location or availability there is a rewarding volunteer role for you.

Whatever you choose, your time will contribute to making Coastrek our most enjoyable fundraising event – so we can keep restoring the sight of more, and more, people.
