One Moment Makes a Lifetime Difference
For families in Rwanda’s Western Province, reaching the Kabgayi Eye Unit means travelling around 300 kilometers and spending several days at the hospital. For those living on low incomes, the cost of transport, time away from work, and uncertainty about treatment can make seeking eye care an overwhelming challenge. Affordable basic eye care remains out of reach for many, even when the solution is simple and effective.

Believe in Sight: Illuminate Every Dream of Education
3 years ago, Jira was excited to be starting school. But that same year he was sent home because he was struggling to see. The 7-year-old has now missed three years of school and spends his time playing with his younger sister Luvono on a remote patch of land in Kenya.
Stories like these remind us why training local eye‑care professionals is so critical.
In 2026, The Fred Hollows Foundation aims to train 607 doctors and nurses in remote regions, so children like Jira can be diagnosed and treated in time — before their sight is lost forever.

YOU & "EYE" DOUBLE THE IMPACT
Magnify Kindness. Ignite Hope.
This year, Tai Ma Sing, Run Grandma Run and Freddy Bear are joining hands with you in support of World Sight Day.
From now until 31 October, every dollar you donate will be matched dollar-for-dollar by our corporate partners, doubling your impact and helping bring the gift of sight to more people in need.

How can The Foundation restore sight for HKD150?
You can help transform lives by restoring sight to those in need. Join the fight against avoidable blindness and help make a lasting difference in the lives of people around the world who are blind.
Just HKD150 can help restore sight to someone who is needlessly blind in some countries and transform their lives forever. Your donation will help cover the costs of the three key things needed to restore sight – the surgeon’s time, the consumable equipment and the intraocular lens (IOL), which replaces the cataract.
If we don’t act now, by 2050, it is estimated more than 61 million people will be blind because of the growing and ageing population. But we can change this. More than 90 per cent of vision loss is preventable or treatable, and your gift can help us reach more people.
We see a world in which no person is needlessly blind or vision impaired. With the support of our partners in 2025, our global impact was profound.

WHAT IMPACT CAN YOUR DONATION BRING?
Blindness and vision impairment are health issue closely related to a person's well-being, quality of life and development opportunities. The Fred Hollows Foundation believes that a fly-in-fly-out model is not the best way to develop a place’s eye health care. Our vision is to build sustainable, good quality, and affordable eye care in remote areas of the world.
Your donation will be used to:
- Train surgeons or eye health workers
- Provide medical equipment
- Organise eye screening camps in remote areas
- Raise awareness of eye health to the public
- Invest in innovation and research
