Support Indigenous literacy today

Indigenous Literacy Day is an opportunity for the wider community to help improve the lives of Aboriginal Australians.

Individuals, schools, booksellers and publishers across the country raised money to provide books for Aboriginal children living in isolated regions on Indigenous Literacy Day (1 September).

The ability to read and write are key social determinants of good health.

Benchmark testing in schools has found that only a third of Indigenous children living in very remote communities can read at the accepted minimum standard.

Indigenous Literacy Day is a partnership between The Foundation and the Australian book industry.
